Formula Drift 2011 Round 7: Title Fight

We needed a faster body to cover sports/action. Namely, motorsports. Our Canon 5D Mark I had a very tough time keeping up in previous outings. So we picked up a Canon 1D Mark II not too long ago, and put it to some good use for the first time this past weekend. Needless to say, it did not disappoint!

Gear list:
- Think Tank Pro Speedbelt with modular attachments
- Cotton Carrier Camera System for Two Cameras (Side Holster attached to Speedbelt)
- Canon 5D Mark I (non-gripped) + Canon 24-105mm f/4 L IS
- Canon 1D Mark II + Canon 300mm f/4 L IS

We considered bringing the ultra-portable Feisol CT-3441S carbon fiber tripod + Photo Clam Pro Gold II Easy QR w/ Lever Clamp ball head combo, but decided against it in order to allow total mobility.

Cereal

Cereal just turned 1 year old in July. July 19 to be exact. She lays comfortably on the top of our reclining seat – one of her favorite spots to chill. Shot with the Canon 5D w/ Zeiss Distagon 35mm T* f/2 ZE Lens at ISO 1600, hand-held, under ambient interior lighting…

The Arboretum of Los Angeles

This past weekend, we visited The Arboretum (in Arcadia, CA), also known as the Los Angeles County Arboretum & Botanic Garden. We walked for miles and miles throughout much of its 127 acres of land, armed with a Canon 5D classic, Canon 85mm f/1.8, and Canon 300mm f/4 L IS, all strapped to a Think Tank Pro Speedbelt with modular attachments and a Cotton Carrier Side Holster. Much to our surprise (or should we ever be surprised?), we found tons of young and old folks out and about with even more gear on-hand, including dSLRs, white/cream-colored lenses, and carbon fiber tripods.

The Prehistoric Forest was very well shaded. It kept us cooler despite the bright, mid-day sun (see map here)…

There was a dense patch of bright, yellow flowers in the middle of a field of grass…

The goose water at Tule pond was quite dirty. Most of the ducks preferred to hang out at Baldwin Lake instead…

This tree squirrel was not too keen on letting us get too close with the 5D + 85mm combo. It climbed higher and higher, and even shot us an evil eye along the way…

Forest of bamboos in Asia! Couldn’t find any ninjas though…

There was a wedding that day (venue prices start at $500). A photographer and his assistant made good use of their time there…

Sneak preview for Johnny & Monica’s Wedding

Visit the Gallery section to check out an exciting sneak preview of some from Johnny & Monica’s Wedding!

Congratulations to Johnny & Monica!

The day (Saturday, August 14) was a bit on the warm side, but far from unbearable.  We followed the groom through a full day of activities, including tea ceremonies at the bride and groom’s residences, and the wedding ceremony and reception at the Luxe Hotel Sunset Blvd.

We’re currently sorting through over 1400 images worth of coverage.  If you’re a friend or family member of the bride & groom, check with them for updates.  Otherwise, check back here later.
